This auction is for a 4 1/2"x2 7/8" "Scarsdale Public Schools Approval Card" from Scarsdale, New York from 1930.

The front of the card reads "Scarsdale Public Schools Approval Card-M. Emerson during the past week has met the requirements of the school with regard to output of work, punctuality, and conduct". Signed R. Kerr (Home Room Teacher), Date 5-2-30.

The reverse side of the card reads, "To the parent: The purpose of this card is to give you prompt information as to the record the pupil is making. A card should be earned each week. If, therefore, none is received, the teachers should be consulted and measures taken to improve the situation. It is suggested that week-end pleasures, "treats", etc. be made dependent upon earning an approval card. It is extremely important that each pupil should learn now the connection between doing his job satisfactorily and enjoying leisure.-Ralph I. Underhill, Superintendent".

Please note that Ralph I. Underhill was Scarsdale, New York's first Superintendent of Public Schools.

This Approval Card is in Good condition with a small bend near the top, and a small spot on the reverse side
